Biography

Shahabuddin Yaqoob Quraishi, an esteemed Indian civil servant and IAS officer from the 1971 Haryana cadre, served as the 17th Chief Election Commissioner of India, following Navin Chawla in July 2010. Prior to this, he was a Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Quraishi, who holds a PhD in communications and social marketing, has significantly contributed to the governance and electoral processes in India. His tenure as CEC was marked by efforts to strengthen the integrity and transparency of Indian elections.
